Hat-Trick of Own Goals, Anyone?

13 10 2010
Multiple copies of ‘Danny Baker’s Own Goals and Gaffs’ made up a much larger percentage of my VHS collection than it reasonably should. Nick Hancock’s Football Nightmares didn’t cut it, and whilst I have never seen Danny Dyer’s Football Foul-Ups, I have seen The Football Factory and can safely assume Dyer would render it unwatchable. For many of my generation, Danny Baker will always be synonymous with own goals, goalkeeping errors, terrible penalties and players getting kicked in the bollocks.
Those of you whose parents were as unimaginative as mine when it came to Christmas presents, may well remember this clip. Danny Baker setting a lighter to a West Ham shirt, a semi amusing footballing anecdote, three own goals in one half, two of them quite ludicrous and some gentle goading from Derek Dougan? Well, I was mildly amused.

I can’t be the only person then who was genuinely delighted to see this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Danny-Baker-Presents-Glorious-Return/dp/B002KSA4EC
